Selfless service, being one of the basic tenets of Sikhism, every Sikh of the Guru is a volunteer, should be a volunteer. It is a great tool to get rid of some of our ego-filled mind's hold. We need to put our mind and the calculator aside after using it for some purposeful reason. Otherwise it just calculates and turns our whole life into calculations; we give some affection back in return to some one's affection. We give gift to someone of the same amount after receiving the gift from that person, otherwise expects the gift in return. We abuse if someone else does. Aren't we living just like 2+2 = 4, with calculations, without using our hearts? When mind hears that it would use its own time, own money to help someone whom it doesn't know (can't expect something back from that person), it gets a great kick. What a blow to the ego and what a triumph of our soul. So with Guru's grace are we ready?

As everyone is aware most of the programs in the Gurdwara run on the volunteerism,
Punjabi classes, Langar (community kitchen), or be it guidance for fitness etc. The Gurdwara premises can also be used as a crisis center by a family/person in case of dire emergency e.g. lack of electricity, lack of water, shelter away from abusive, physically violent environment. Any family in dire need of small amount of money can also contact Gurdwara volunteer committee. The spiritual counselors are present for any wisdom/life decisions discussion. These all volunteer services are present for you.
